CEMVC Director Launches Tech Startup Metafy

Dr. Lauren Beck, Director of the CEMVC and a Professor at Mount Allison University, has officially launched tech start-up Metafy in collaboration with CEMVC researchers, as well as developers and industry experts from across Canada.

The company’s primary offering, MetaCrawl, is a SEO (search engine optimization) application that helps websites increase their visibility, improve search engine ranking, and promote inclusive content. Building on research done at the CEMVC, Dr. Beck and her team have dedicated themselves to uncovering ways to promote and deliver a human-centric strategy to website optimization.

“As scholars, our research doesn’t usually lead us down the path of a start-up,” says Beck. “Metafy, however, is a natural extension of my research about the social implications of metadata, seeing as MetaCrawl is designed to remedy some of the harmful ways that metadata can shape how we know the world around us. I hope to further integrate Metafy with my research and provide students with internship opportunities at the company.”

Research and development are ongoing as Metafy looks for more ways to deliver value to clients.

Check out the Metafy website for more information on MetaCrawl and the company.
